Consider the typing of my thoughts into this thread as a cathartic experience. A coping mechanism into the very small space of music earth who even knows what synth music is.

My love affair with Rupesh Cartel started with a track on an ADD throw-in compilation called Contract. I was amazed. It captivated me. I immediately bought the full cd Mainland. Oh what joy those days had. To date I have listened to this cd somewhere around 300-400 times. I would say it is the best album of all time. Nearly every song was unique, full of imagination. So much promise. I showed her off to my friends and they wanted her too.

But then...Something started going wrong. The second release "The Disco and the What Not" wasn't as pretty nor as entertaining. Sure, it was mastered to the hilt. Perfectly clear and punchy. Almost too punchy... Maybe I changed. Who knows really. The good news was that there were still traces of what I loved. The tremendous Hide Like This, and other catchy tunes like About Denial, Clay, Push.

Then...then...then... "Anchor Baby". What the heck? Is Viktor even trying anymore? I mean, an affair takes two to tango. I brought my ears and money to the party and all I got was a dead lay. The chick is lifeless. What a waste. It is like Disco part II without any of the catchy songs.

The affair is over. Unless this lady finds her magic again, she and I are on the splits.

All i can say is that i couldn't disagree more. Mainland is a hard cd to better...Disco was a bit of a letdown in all truth, but Anchor is on par with Mainland at least...I intend to write more about this great cd....soon? hopefully

To each their own I guess. I've listened to it at least 5 times in completion and skipped around other times and can't find one song even marginally entertaining. What songs stand out to you?

I think with Mainland, what got me was the incredible versatility. Retainer, From Here to Hell, the masterpiece My Heart, and others were so unique. Each song had its own sounds and thoughts. Anchor Baby is so lifeless. Like they had a character lobotomy.

Personally, I think that "The Disco and The Whatnot" was a rather interesting departure in sound style and the result was quite effective, in the long term even more so than "Mainland". The latest album, on the other hand, didn't do much for me, it's a bit of an in-between thing that doesn't manage to grab the best of both worlds of the other albums.
